Lives and works in Oslo
Alessandro Marchi’s artistic practice revolves around human modified landscapes, notions of ownership, inequality, chaos and public space, examining how humans constantly negotiate and modify their spaces. The ideas around ownership primarily relate to land and properties. He works experimentally and site-specifically to create installations, events, artist books, walks, sculptures, carpets, paintings, maps, texts and audio pieces. Marchi has an MFA from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts (2020) and an MSc in Mechanical Engineering from the Universitá degli Studi di Bologna (2002). His works have been shown internationally in exhibitions in Italy, Spain, Germany, France, Portugal, Croatia, Norway, the Netherlands, the USA and the UK.
Marchi brings his project Ingenmannsretten to MOMENTUM 12. Ingenmannsretten provides the context to analyse how private and corporate interests shape and influence the public space of major Norwegian cities. Through a series of sculptures, maps, audio and text, the project raises public awareness to the threats that land capital gains pose. It relates to the Norwegian concept of Allemannsretten, which means the freedom to roam or the general public’s right to access certain public or privately owned land, lakes, and rivers for recreation and exercise.
