The mapping bubble map the territory. Eat the menu. Wrap the map.

Let’s start from the beginning.

2022 was the year of the Tiger, 2023 the year of the Rabbit. During the time we have been mapping the process of M12, we also kept track of the key events of the world alongside our process. We did this to contextualize the biennale, ourselves and our thoughts. We are situated in the Nordics, we are from all over the world, we collaborate with the people all over the world. If we only keep an eye on our own location, we lose content and context - we need to place ourselves on the map in relation to all these events for it all to make sense. Below you see some of the time- and place lines we have been operating within during M12 Together as to gather.

ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot developed by OpenAI and released in November 2022. The "Chat" in the name is a reference to it being a chatbot, and the "GPT" stands for generative pre-trained transformer—a type of large language model (LLM).NASA scientists report the discovery of LHS 475 b, an Earth-like exoplanet – and the first exoplanet observed by the James Webb Space Telescope.

Quantum computing is the next remarkable technology trend for 2023. With advancements in quantum physics, phenomena like quantum entanglement, superposition, and more are being applied to computing. Quantum computers are observed to be faster and extremely efficient as compared to ordinary computers.Nov 25, 2022

Scientists at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California announced in December that they had produced the first fusion reaction that created more energy than was used to start it. The long-elusive achievement marked a major breakthrough in harnessing the process that fuels the sun.

Breakthroughs in fungus communication: New studies have revealed that mushrooms—specifically ghost, caterpillar, split gill, and enoki fungi—can "talk" to each other by sending electrical impulses to each other through a web of underground mycelium similar to the human body's nervous system. Though the mushrooms were found to utilize up to 50 "words" closely resembling human language, researchers are not yet ready to directly link their communication to human speech. It is hypothesized that the fungi transmit information to each other about injuries and food sources.

Natural Disasters

Unfortunately, natural disasters such as earthquakes, hurricanes, floods, and wildfires occur worldwide. The extent and impact of these events vary from year to year.

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL REPORT 2022/23

THE STATE OF THE WORLD’S HUMAN RIGHTS

2022 saw new, renewed and protracted conflicts that led to appalling tragedies. Some of them amounted to war crimes and crimes against humanity. When people attempted to flee these conflicts or other crises, some states failed to treat them humanely. Across the world, authorities continued their heavy-handed repression of universal freedoms. And over the year, international reactions to these serious abuses varied. Some were condemned, some supported, and many others ignored.

Economic crises led to rocketing price rises for food and fuel and increased pressure on health and other social services. The most marginalized were hit the hardest, and inequality rose. Women, girls and LGBTI people faced gender-based violence and discrimination. However, governments failed to support people and their position worsened.
